How To Prevent Bad Breath

Do you have bad breath? So do more than 80 million people. We’ve all been embarrassed by bad breath before and sometimes you just can’t get rid of it. Here are some tips to help you prevent it:

Brush your teeth twice a day

Brushing your teeth first thing in the morning and then again right before bedtime will clean bad breath-causing plaque and bacteria from your mouth. Make sure you use a fluoride toothpaste and brush for at least two full minutes.

Floss at least once every day

Flossing cleans the spaces between your teeth where bacteria can grow and make your breath stink.

Use mouth wash

Thoroughly swishing with a fluoride mouth wash in addition to daily brushing and flossing can help fight those bad breath germs.

Scrub your tongue

Neglecting your tongue when you brush your teeth could be the cause of your bad breath because bacteria can get soaked into your tongue if it’s not cleaned properly. Use your toothbrush or a special tongue scraper to brush your tongue.

Stay hydrated

Make sure to drink plenty of water, especially after eating a meal. Water can help clean food debris off your teeth. Drinking water will also help your mouth produce adequate saliva, which helps balance the acid levels in your mouth and prevent bad breath.

Drink less alcohol and soda

Avoid alcohol and soda as they can worsen bad breath and make you dehydrated.

Don’t smoke

If you smoke, here’s one more among many reasons to stop smoking. Cigarettes and any other form of tobacco contribute greatly to bad breath.
