Helpful Tips About Your Wisdom Teeth

Does Wisdom Teeth Removal Hurt?

Proper anesthesia makes you numb to the pain, and you only feel the pressure of the extraction. So you will be comfortable and relaxed.

What Happens After the Removal and What Helps?

Things that occur after wisdom teeth removal include:

1.    Facial Swelling – This happens naturally after teeth have been removed. To reduce it, you can put some ice in a small cloth and place it in that area for about 5-10 minutes. Do this throughout the day after the surgery but always remember to have intervals during the process.

2.    Bleeding – After tooth removal, bleeding often follows. Mild bleeding is normal. Avoid pressure and try placing a moistened tea bag around the surgery. Don’t rinse your mouth within the first 24 hours after the surgery, don’t brush or floss, don’t spit and don’t take any hot substance.

3.    Dry Socket – Most times, after tooth extraction, blot clot may fail to form. When you notice this, contact your dentist. He will provide the required medication for the socket.

What to Eat After Extraction?

When you remove wisdom teeth, eating becomes a big problem. But this doesn’t mean your tummy has to suffer. What kind of foods can you consume after this extraction process? Many dentists advise soft foods because they don’t offend the area of your mouth that’s just healing. Some of them include:

●    Milk

●    Yogurt

●    Applesauce

●    Smoothies

●    Lukewarm Soup

●    Scrambled eggs

Other Helpful Tips

Aside from eating soft foods, these are other things you need to take note of.

●    Keep your head elevated for the first 24-72 hours. Your face needs to heal; so, don’t do anything that’ll reduce the level of elevation of your head. It’s advisable to use a pillow.

●    Stay away from tobacco and marijuana. Smoking can be very unhealthy and lead to dry socket.

●    Avoid drinking using a straw as this can slow down healing.

●    Never stop drinking lukewarm water. Recovery is quicker when you stay hydrated.

●    Get a lot of rest and don’t get involved in anything strenuous or tasking. Allow family or a friend to take care of you during this period.

●    Avoid rinsing with salt water within the first four days. Although some people recommend this, it’s a wrong advice, and it can also contribute to the emergence of dry socket. The healing that salt water brings comes only after four days.

●    Use medication to relieve pain but don’t take them as a ticket to avoid rest. Depend on ice to do more of the pain relief for you.

See your Dentist if You Notice Any of These Symptoms

●    Excessive Bleeding

●    Unreduced Swelling

●    Loss of Sensation

●    Nasal Discharge Containing Blood

●    Fever

●    Pus
